Window 2003 File System "Feature" WTF ???

I just came across the strangest thing on our windows 2003 cluster.. I'm calling it a windows feature for lack of a better description. We basically have a  hard drive replicated across two servers .. both the same size volume, but they're reporting extreemly different disk usage. Recycle bin is empty on both servers. There's no hidden files taking up the space .. I have no idea how this could be. I think a picture says a thousand words.

Update ... after rebooting web1 the file system usage reports correctly. If that's not a windows feature, I don't know what is.

What sort of clustering technology are you using? If the disks are replicated asynchronously, the useage might actually be true, although unlikely.

Hi Alan,
we're currently using windows DFS :( .. The previous version (not sure exactly which version number) was very dodgy and would take some time to replicate. The latest version has been much better. That doesn't really account for 5Gb though. The disks should still report their usage accurately regardless of which replication technology you're using.

I would suspect Alternate Data Streams in NTFS is the cause of the missing space
